Grotte de Versailles, the Cave of Versailles, is a splendid carre designed by Maurice Tranchant, which was first issued in 1969.
If you love Versailles, chartreuse, white and black, then you will most definitely fall in love with this amazing carre just like I did.
As the name suggests, Tranchant takes his inspiration from the Grotte de Téthys at Versailles.

And I believe the Chevaux du Soleil sculpture in particular.
The most famous sculpture at the center of the Grotte de Téthys, is the one of Apollo being served by nymphs. To the right is the Chevaux du Soleil statue, Horses of the Sun, which I believe is at the center of Tranchant’s carre.
I invite you to “stroll” down the path of this splendid carre and you may be just surprised at what you will find…
