“Mémoire d’Hermès” Hermès Carré – Inspiration

In Memory of Hermes…

Memoire d’Hermes Hermès Carré by Caty Latham (1992)

Mémoire d’Hermès carré is a delightful collage of items we all are quite familiar with.

We discover objects like the same little purse from the Les Clefs carre… [Link to the Inspiration for that design]

At the center of the Les Clefs carre, is an eighteenth-century velvet and gold purse surrounded by keys – the same type can be spotted in the Memoire d’Hermes scarf below

Same is true for the stirrup, that reminds us of the Etriers carré by Françoise De La Perrière (1964). [Link to the Inspiration Blog Post for the Etriers]

This carré is an ideal homage to the Fashion House’s heritage, and perfect for any Hermès enthusiast.

At its center, Madame Latham’s design features Thierry Hermès, the brand’s founder, seated amidst a collection of iconic items borrowed from other designs.

Born in Krefeld, Germany, in 1801, Thierry Hermès moved to France in 1821 after losing his family to war and disease. At 36, he started a horse harness company that would eventually grow into a world-renowned luxury fashion house. Today, Hermès is celebrated for its exquisite leather goods, ready-to-wear, home furnishings, and accessories—including watches, jewelry, and, of course, its iconic scarves.

True to its name, Memoire d’Hermes is a stunning retrospective of the fashion house. This beautiful collection of objects d’art expertly captures the essence and rich history of the brand.

Perhaps a self-portrait? If not then definitely the artist’s signature
