The Hermès Le Jardin de Leila carré is a tribute to Leïla Menchari, renowned Tunisian artist and the longtime window dresser for the Hermès flagship store at 24 Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré in Paris.

François Houtin a landscape architect, engraver, and illustrator, designed the scarf as his personal, dreamy interpretation of a garden that was incredibly significant to Menchari. This garden, which she discovered as a child in her native Tunisia, inspired many of her fantastical and meticulously crafted window displays for Hermès throughout her career.

Menchari’s windows were legendary for their luxurious abundance and ability to transport viewers into magical worlds. She worked for Hermès for decades, transforming the store’s windows into elaborate theatrical sets that often featured exotic, lush, and surreal landscapes. Houtin’s Le Jardin de Leila directly honors this legacy by capturing the essence of the natural world that was a constant source of inspiration for her.

I invite you to explore this enchanted garden magnificently and meticulously rendered in ink …
