I have decided to start with Zoé Pauwels as my first featured Hermès artist. Not because her name starts with a “z” so last in the alphabet first on my list sort of thing, or because I just simply adore her Monnaies et Symboles des Parisii scarf, but because she has created well over 20 iconic scarves for Hermès and one of her scarf designs will be featured on this year’s Valentine’s Day stamp.
Yep, the French La Poste began enlisting French couture houses such as Chanel, Lanvin, Givenchy in 2000 to design its annual Valentine’s Day stamp. This year, the honor goes to Hermès and for the first time, La Poste is issuing a sheet of five stamps with different designs. The 2013 Valentine’s Day “heart” edition will be created around Hermès’ “De Tout Coeur” scarf designed by Ms. Pauwels.
In addition to her beautiful scarf designs, Ms. Pauwels is a serious modern artist. Her works range from pencil drawings to oils, multi-media and murals. On her website (www.zoepauwels.com , which I am afraid is no longer up 🙁 as of May 2016 when I am re-editing this post) she credits music for her inspiration. But after reading some of her quotes, I would add science and math. You will find all her scarves on her site along with some interesting quotes…
Here is a small sample of some of Zoé Pauwels scarves
